UPFA candidate Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon, the son of Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon, obtained the highest preference votes from the Matale District with 51,591 while rival candidate Ranjith Aluwihare received 29,545 votes for the UNP.

Ranjith Aluwihare - 29,545
