Massive response for ‘Manusath Derana’

A massive response was seen for the ‘Manusath Derana’ campaign, aimed at collecting funds to aid people suffering from kidney disease in rural villages, with donations amounting to around Rs 4.3 million being received within the first 9 hours of the telethon launched on TV Derana yesterday.
Out of the thousands of concerned citizens who made donations for the cause, over 20 had made personal contributions exceeding Rs 50,000.
The ‘Negombo-Paris Organisation’, a France based Sri Lankan community group made a donation of Rs 500,000 yesterday while Gem Merchant Deshamanya W. Vinil, Asiri Wanigarathne, credited with introducing Feng Shui to Sri Lanka, popular actor Jackson Anthony, Himashi Publications Company, popular actress Sabeetha Perera, MP Wijedasa Rajapaksa and Missaka Nadun of Magni Holding Pvt Ltd each donated Rs 100,000 to Manusath Derana.
General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) organization Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero donated Rs 60,000 while the chairman of the ‘Ratnapura Pohorabawa Tharuna Ha Gemi Jana Sahajeewana Ekamuthuwa’ H.D. Chandrasiri made a donation of Rs 55,000 yesterday.
Meanwhile Spectra Engineering Pvt Ltd, Alawdeen Jewellers in Sea Street, Tissa Nagodawithana, Sandya Kumari from Malabe, Ayarin Jayasinghe from Rajagiriya and Lilani Perera from Hendala each donated Rs 50,000 for the fund.
Donations of Rs 50,000 were also made by Priyantha Perera of P.S. Engineering, Wilson Stores company, Mohamed Sarfeen and Minister C.B Ratnayake.
George Steuart Health (Pvt) Ltd has agreed to sponsor the special medical clinic for kidney patients.
