Over four acres of land have been completely destroyed due to a wild fire which is spreading in the Pubudugama area in the Muthurajawela wetland since this evening, police said.

The Police Spokesman’s Office stated that fire broke out at around 4.00pm today and that the fire brigade with the assistance of police and residents in the area are currently attempting to control the flames.

An Ada Derana reporter said that several shanty homes are located in the vicinity of the area where the fire is spreading and that Police Special Task Force (STF) are assisting in evacuating the residents and their possessions.
