The Chairman and the former Chairman of the Wilgamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha have been arrested by police on charges of transporting marijuana.

Police said the two suspects were arrested last night while they were transporting the narcotics in a double cab belonging to the Pradeshiya Sabha.

Wilgamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman, Jayantha Weerasekara, and former PS Chairman, Ranjith Dissanayake, are currently in police custody and will be produced at court today.

Following the recent raid and torching of a ganja cultivation within the Wasgamuwa National Park by police, the PS Chairman had directed accusations against the racketeers and local political leadership.
