Cinematographer-filmmaker Santosh Sivan’s Tamil war-drama Inam, a story on a group of orphans during the Sri Lankan civil war, will be pulled out of theatres in Tamil Nadu from Monday following protests from Tamil fringe groups.

Inam released in India on March 28.

“My love for Tamils has been questioned by some groups. I distributed Inam as a cinema lover and not to hurt the sentiments of my Tamil brothers and make profits. To avoid confusion during election time, we are pulling out Inam from cinemas tomorrow [Monday],” N. Linguswamy, who distributed Inam, said in a statement.

On Saturday, following a request by some Tamil fringe groups, five scenes were removed from Inam, which narrates the survival story of a refugee during the Sri Lankan civil war.

“I’m not afraid of any opposition but I’m concerned about the feelings of Tamils. I’m ready to bear all the losses incurred by the film,” he added.

Directed and produced by Santosh Sivan, Inam features Saritha, Karunas, Sugandha Ram and Karan in important roles. - IANS
