At present Mahinda Rajapaksa capitalist regime has pushed
Sri Lanka towards a deep economic political social cultural precipice,
the JVP said in its May Day message.
It added that regime that has given up production economy is plunging the country in a nefarious economy that is abundant with gambling including online casino, liquor, heroin, prostitution and black money racketeering.
Full message;
Today is May Day, the day the heroes and heroines of the working class, who shed their blood and sweat and sacrificed their lives in a bitter, protracted struggle carried out to win an eight hour working day, are commemorated.
Today is also the day millions of working masses together with anti-imperialist, progressive, democratic, humanitarian and environment friendly people display strength of their unity and camaraderie by raising the red banners of international solidarity.
However, imperialism that is confronted with the deepest economic crisis in its history and is fast approaching its demise has deprived billions of working masses not only their right for an eight hour working day but also their fundamental rights for food, housing, health, education and employment.
This year marks hundred years since the commencement of the first world war in 1914. Within the last century imperialists also launched the Second World War. A large number of regional conflicts too have been launched by imperialists during this period. Millions of human lives were sacrificed during these wars; invaluable resources were destroyed and are being denied to the masses. They would be destroyed and denied to the people as long as imperialism, the absolute enemy of the masses, exists on this Earth. Imperialism is suffering from war mania and sees wars of plunder as the only solution for the deep economic crisis it is confronted with at present.
However, imperialism that is confronted with a financial crisis that has no solution, burdened with several regional military conflicts and has to maintain military camps spread throughout the world burning trillions of dollars, is rapidly deteriorating. The end of imperialism could be executed by intensifying the anti-imperialist struggle by billions of people all over the world. The JVP, as the Sri Lankan segment of the international struggle to wipeout imperialism from the Earth, resolves on this May Day, to fulfill its duties and responsibilities and to make any sacrifices in achieving this goal.
At present Mahinda Rajapaksa capitalist regime has pushed Sri Lanka towards a deep economic political social cultural precipice. The regime that has given up production economy is plunging the country in a nefarious economy that is abundant with gambling including online casino, liquor, heroin, prostitution and black money racketeering. Sri Lanka has been made infamous by making it a hideout for local and international bandits, outlaws and gangsters.
The government that has uttered a massive lie for the people regarding a colossal development does not tell the people billions of money obtained as loans have been wasted and the country has been imprisoned in a debt trap. It doesnt say that the national income and foreign exchange reserves have vastly decreased. However, the gang of robbers that rule the country steal or waste 1/10 of the national income.
In such an environment Mahinda Rajapaksa regime has overloaded the people of all positions in the society with the burden of the economic crisis. It is by levying boundless taxes. The government that has increased prices of essential commodities and fares of services thereby increasing the cost of living has not taken any measures to increase salaries or income of the people.
Mahinda Rajapaksa that completely ignored the opportunity created in May, 2009 to establish democracy, equality and camaraderie throughout Sri Lanka used all avenues and his power to establish the dictatorship of the Rajapaksa family. He amended the Constitution in order to achieve this objective; grabbed from the people the moderate democracy that existed and violated human rights. Rajapaksa regime did not take any measures to establish the right for information, freedom of speech and expression, good governance or supremacy of the judiciary.
Instead of the separation of powers of the executive, the legislature and the judiciary the legislature and the judiciary were brought under the executive. The unarmed masses that engaged in agitations to win their legitimate rights were shot down. Government goons who are armed have taken the law into their hands. Sri Lanka has degenerated into a crime land. Crimes have escalated so that Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim people are unable to live without fear or mistrust.
Specially, religious fundamentalist and communalist extremist terrorists have been allowed to take the law into their hands and unleash terror under the nose of security sections.
On the other hand Rajapaksa regime that has failed to solve economic and political issues in the country is making a wretched attempt to spread false propaganda regarding nonexistent threats to the country to hide their impotency.
Mahinda Rajapaksa regime, instead of solving the national question in Sri Lanka, took measures to further complicate the issue. It is how Mahinda Rajapaksa regime paved the way for foreign organizations to interfere in the internal affairs of the country. It is certain that this regime would not be able to protect sovereignty, independence and dignity of our country. However, the day is not far away when Rajapaksas, who call themselves anti-imperialists, betray Sri Lanka to imperialists.
Treacherous, anti-people, pro-imperialist Mahinda Rajapaksa regime has bankrupted the economy of Sri Lanka; dragged more than half the population towards poverty and malnutrition. Politics in Sri Lanka has been criminalized; culture has been made to go astray. The Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim Burgher and Malay masses are increasingly realizing the aforesaid economic, political and cultural breakdown in the country. The results of the recently held PC elections for the Western and Southern provinces displayed this appropriately. The people now need a change. It is not a mere change of government. It should be a change of government as well as the elimination of the existing unjust and unfair slavery system.
Pro-imperialist UPFA led by the SLFP can never give leadership for such a task. Not even the UNP that has got fragmented or other political cliques that have gone astray can think of such a task. It could be achieved only by the JVP that dedicates itself to strengthen the broadest ant-imperialist peoples movement.
As such, the JVP invites all working masses, the farmer community, women, youths, students, professionals, technologists, entrepreneurs, industrialists, artistes, humanitarians and environmentalists on this May Day to ideologically and organizationally rally round the ant-imperialist, anti-capitalist broad front that is being built with the leadership of the JVP and to struggle until the victory of new Socialism that establishes democracy, equality, national unity and achieve social justice and freedom.
Down with imperialism liberation for the people!
Down with capitalism Victory for Socialism!
Political Bureau,
Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna.
