Sri Lanka Police is to introduce an additional uniform for women police officers in the near future, the Police Spokesman’s Office said.

A trouser and shirt has been proposed for use by women police officers on duty in addition to the existing uniform of skirt and shirt.

The proposal was made by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), after considering the various hardships faced by women police officers while engaging in duties other than office duty.

The proposal has received approval from the Secretary to the Ministry of Law and Order, the Police Spokesman’s Office said.

Accordingly a new uniform comprising a Khaki colored long trouser and shirt will be provided to Women Police Constables and Women Sergeants, in addition to their normal uniform while women police officers of the rank Inspector and Sub-inspector will be provided a uniform comprising a long trouser and a bush coat.

Meanwhile the Law and Order Secretary has also approved a new uniform for pregnant women police officers.
