Monsoonal winds expected to continue

The Department of Meteorology says that the possibility for increasing of South-west monsoonal wind speed (up to 70-80kmph) at times over the country, particularly along the western slopes of the central hills and adjacent sea areas is still high.

This strong windy condition will be reduced to a certain extent by tomorrow. However monsoonal winds will be continued further, it said.
 
Several spells of showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts. Showers may spread to the North-Western province too.

Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant as deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo and Galle and Eastern deep sea areas (particularly Bay of Bengal sea areas) will be very rough at times as the winds speed can be strengthen up to 70-80kmph at times. Other sea areas around the island will also be rough at times.

The Disaster Management Center says that over 300 homes have been damaged due to strong winds which affected parts of the island yesterday.

Strong winds caused damages to 318 houses in Ratnapura, Badulla and Nuwara Eliya districts, assistant director of the DMC Pradeep Kodippili said.
