10,000 officers for Uva election duties

Some 10,000 election officers will be deployed for the upcoming elections in Uva Province, the Department of Election says.

Apart from this, another group of election officials will be stationed for the vote counting process.   

Further, two armed police officers will also be deployed in every polling station.  The officers will deploy two days prior to the election date, according to police.

All together 617 candidates (323 - Monaragala and 294 - Badulla) representing 14 political parties and 11 independent groups will contest the election. 14 councilors will be elected for the Moneragala district while 18 will be elected for the Badulla district.

The Uva provincial council election will be held on the 20 September.
