Heroin found with suspect in Karandeniya doctor’s murder

Prison officials today discovered around 2,500 milligrams of heroin in the possession of an inmate at the Galle Prisons who had been arrested in suspicion over the murder of Dr. Priyanka Prasad Jayasinghe, popularly known as “Hitha Honda Dostara,” in Karandeniya.
The discovery was made during a special search operation carried out by prison officials within the Galle Prison premises this morning. The heroin found in the possession of the inmate has been handed over to Galle Police.
Police and the Prisons Department are conducting an extensive investigation to determine how the drugs were smuggled into the prison and provided to the inmate, who is to be produced at the Galle Magistrate’s Court on heroin possession charges.
The suspect in question was arrested in connection with the murder of the well-known doctor in Karandeniya on September 29, 2011 and remanded by the Galle Court.
