August 28, 2014   03:10 pm

The undergraduates at the University of Peradeniya this morning launched a boycott of classes in protest against suppression of student activism.

President of the Peradeniya University Students Union Aruna Lasantha said that they demand the release of three students who were remanded, last week.

The students were remanded until 4 September by Kandy Magistrate Wasantha Kumara.

The students were arrested at the Peradeniya police when they came to give a statement with respect to a Sathyagraha campaign staged in Galaha Junction. The campaign was launched demanding the university administration to reopen the management faculty.

Lasantha added that they will continue to boycott classes, if their demands are not met.
