November 18, 2014   06:01 pm

The police today informed the Matale Magistrate’s Court that the skeletons found from a mass grave site at the Matale District hospital premises are belong to early 1950s.

A report prepared by a US agency on this regard was too submitted to Matale Magistrate Sampath Gamage.

In a previous occasion, some 13 petitioners had filed affidavits at the Matale Magistrate’s Court and sought DNA tests to be carried out on skeletal remains unearthed from the mass graves as they suspect the skeletal remains could be of their relatives who disappeared during the 88 – 89 period.

The bones were first uncovered on 26 November 2012, when a trench was being dug by some construct workers to lay the foundation for a proposed bio-gas unit for the hospital.
