Actor Vijay thanks Modi for Indian fishermen release

Following the release of five Tamil Nadu fishermen, who were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy three years ago, popular South Indian actor Vijay has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government for freeing them from Sri Lanka.
The fishermen, released on Wednesday, 19 November were arrested on charges of drug trafficking. The actor has reportedly written a letter to Modi and has even placed a request before him.
In his letter, Vijay, who is basking in the success of “Kaththi”, has praised the Central Government’s role in the release of fishermen, who were given death penalty last month by the Sri Lankan government.
Vijay has reportedly felt that the lives of those fishermen are precious as they were the bread winners of their families and added that the entire Tamil Nadu is happy with the latest news.
Interestingly, the actor raises the issue of TN fishermen’s constant trouble with the Sri Lankan navy and he wants the government to address the issue to ensure that they can go to the sea without any fear.
According to the Dravidian parties in Tamil Nadu, fishermen are intentionally targeted by the Mahinda Rajapaksa’s government.

However, on Tuesday, the government had filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the Sri Lankan high court’s verdict and Narendra Modi had personally spoken regarding the matter with Rajapaksa. - IB Times India
