Luxury bus drivers operating on the Katunayake-Colombo highway bus route have resorted to a strike action since this morning, President of the Lanka Private Bus Owners Association Gemunu Wijerathne said.
Wijerathne told Ada Derana that the bus drivers have decided to resort to the trade union action as their demands have not been met even after several rounds of discussions with the authority.
“We have found many difficulties as the private buses operating on the Katunayake-Colombo highway are not allowed to load passengers from the airport terminal. But, buses attached to the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLBT) are allowed to do so.” he added.
Wijerathne went on saying that the ministry has allocated space for a bus stand in Ewariyawatta area in Katunayake for private buses, and they will continue the strike until the authorities provide adequate solutions for this issue.
