Four out of five sluice gates of the Udawalawe Reservoir have been opened after the water reached spill level today.

Each sluice gate has been opened one foot while the excess water is being released to the Walawe River at 9,000 cubic feet of water per sec. Therefore those in the vicinity of the Walawe River have been urged to remain cautious.

Meanwhile residents of Ambalantota, Malay Colony, Rideegama and Liyangatota have especially been cautioned regarding the opening of the sluice gates.
