17 Pradeshiya Sabha members join Maithri

Seventeen Pradeshiya Sabha members of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) who represent the Polonnaruwa district, today, defected and pledged to support Common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena ahead of Presidential polls.

Ada Derana reporter said that this was announced at a press conference held in Polonnaruwa, this morning.

Accordingly, seven members from Thamankaduwa Pradeshiya Sabha, four members from Lankapura Pradeshiya Sabha, and two members from Medirigiriya, Welikanda,a and Hingurakgoda each joined the Common Opposition.

Adding a new twist to country’s political arena, 19 ruling party Pradeshiya Sabha members of the Kurunegala district too pledged to support the Common Candidate at the forthcoming Presidential election, yesterday.
