Man held with foreign currency worth Rs 8.3 million

A person has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake this morning for attempting to leave the country with foreign currency worth around Rs 8.3 million in his possession.

The 41-year-old suspect, a resident of Moratuwa, was arrested by customs officers when he was preparing to board a flight to Dubai at 1.45am today.

In total customs officers found 20,800 Euros, 17,300 Pound Sterling and 24,000 Saudi Riyals inside his luggage.
