Speaker needs more time on Opposition Leader’s post

Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa says that he needs more time to consider his decision on the Opposition Leader’s post, which subject of controversy after 26 Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) MPs joined the new Government to accept ministerial portfolios.

A proposal signed by some 60 Parliamentarians, requesting to appoint Mahajana Eksath Peramuna leader Dinesh Gunawardena as the Opposition Leader, was handed over to the Speaker, on Tuesday (7).

Several MPs argued that this made present Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva not fitting to hold his post.
