Heavy rain fall expected in parts of the country

The Department of Meteorology says that under the influence of Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), the possibility for rain and lightning activities over the country still persists.
 
Showers or thundershowers will occur at most parts of the island during the afternoon and night while heavy rain falls (more than 100 mm) are also expected at some places.
 
There will be showers at Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Northwestern provinces during the morning too, the Met Department said.
 
There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers, it said.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea area extending from Kankesanthurai to Hambanthota via Colombo and Galle. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea area around the island during the afternoon and night.
 
Winds will be South-westerly and speed will be 20-40 kmph. However, there can be temporarily localized strong winds during thundershowers.
 
The sea area extending from Kankesanthurai to Hambanthota via Colombo and Galle will be rough at times as the winds can strengthen up to 50-60 kmph at times. Other sea area around the island will not be rough, but can become temporarily rough during thundershowers.
