A Sri Lankan teenager has been found safe after she went missing from a bus stop on Thursday night in Brisbane, Australia.

Anushka Ellalagoda, 19, was spotted by a member of the public around 7.50am on Friday near the corner of Brunswick Street and Merthyr Road at New Farm.

Police were contacted, and the woman is currently receiving medical treatment.

Earlier, police launched an air and land search when she disappeared after getting off a bus.

Police said 19-year-old Anushka Ellalagoda went missing from Newstead at 11pm last night.

She hopped off the bus at the intersection of Commercial Road and Skyring Terrace, telling the driver she would return in a few minutes.

Police were contacted when Ms Ellalagoda failed to return with all of her property including mobile phone and purse left behind on the bus.

Police and family hold concerns for her safety and are appealing for anyone who may have seen her to contact them.

She is described as being Sri Lankan, about 165cm tall with a slim build and long black hair.

On her Facebook account, Ms Ellalagoda says she is a creative and professional writing student at Queensland University of Technology.
