August 1, 2015   05:44 pm

Deputy Minister Thilanga Sumathipala says that although the Elections Commissioner had promised to conduct a free and fare election, Finance Minister Raci Karunanayake has been able to unleash terror in the city of Colombo.

Addressing a media briefing in Colombo today, the Deputy Minister of Skills Development stated that the UPFA government had managed to eradicate the underworld during its reign.

Sumathipala, who is a UPFA Colombo District candidate, charged that UNP candidate Karunanayake had violated election laws by using such a large number of people for campaigning activities in the Bloemendhal area yesterday and questioned whether this was “good governance”.

Terror has already reached Colombo City now, he said, adding that this “terror” is receiving UNP sponsorship.

Sumathipala claimed that police have arrested 21 persons in connection with yesterday’s shooting incident and that Minister Karunanayake is exerting pressure on the police to release them.
