President asks voters to elect only suitable people to Parliament

All voters of the country have a great responsibility to elect only suitable persons to the Parliament in forthcoming General Election, says President Maithripala Sirisena.

Only most suitable candidates who work for the country and safeguard the respect of the Parliament should be elected to the Parliament at the election, he added. People should do that selection according to their knowledge, intelligence and prior experience of the persons, he further stated.

The President made these remarks at a ceremony to launch two books of Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe, held on Friday (Aug. 07) at the BMICH in Colombo.

The President also pointed out that the reputation of the politicians being tarnished because they are not fulfilling their responsibilities towards the people properly. He also said that politicians, public servants as well as diplomats should always commit themselves to fulfill the aspirations of the people when they assume duties of their respective posts.

The President commended the former Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe for the services rendered at national and international levels using his knowledge, wisdom and experiences.
