Election campaigning ends at midnight

Campaigning for the General Election will draw to a close at 12.00 midnight today (Aug 14), 48 hours before the election.

Deputy Commissioner of Elections M.M. Mohamed stated that engaging in any election propaganda and campaigning activities after midnight today will be illegal. 

 Therefore the final election rallies of political parties and independent groups are set to take place today.

The final rally of the United National Front (UNF) led by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will be held near the Tower Hall in Maradana.

The final rally of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) will take place in Kurunegala with the participation of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The JVP’s final rally will take place near the Aluthkade Junction in Colombo, with the participation of party leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
