Two Sri Lankan navy ships engaged in a joint naval exercise with a visiting Australian naval ship in the seas off Colombo, the Defence Ministry said.

Accordingly, Sri Lankan navy ship Sagara and Samudura carried out the exercise with the visiting Australian navy ship ‘Melbourne’.

“HMAS ‘Melbourne’ arrived at the port of Colombo on August 30 for a five day visit. The successful engagement in the joint exercise further enhanced the existing ties between two navies.

Both navies play a vital role to thwart illegal activities while assuring the maritime security in the region,” the Ministry said in a statement.
