Technical fault cause of island-wide power outage - CEB

A technical fault is suspected to be the cause of the island-wide power outage that took place midnight yesterday, CEB said today. However steps were taken to restore power and by 3.30am-4am power was fully restored, CEB Director Anura Wijepala told Ada Derana.

A special investigation will be carried out to ascertain the cause of the technical failure and through it avoid a recurrence, Wijepala added.

He regretted any inconvenience caused to the public due to the outage.

Power Minister Ranjith Siyabalapitiya also stated that he had instructed the CEB chairman to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
