A team from the Maldives police is in Sri Lanka after a Maldivian man was found with stab injuries in the neighbouring country, Maldivian police has announced.

A police spokesperson, however, said no suspect has been arrested in the investigation.

It has been able to confirm that the victim was Hussain ‘Rabarey’ Razeen who is a notorious former gangster.

Razeen had been a prime suspect in the high profile murder case of Ali Ishaaru. Razeen had turned himself in after Interpol issued a red notice against him.

A Sri Lankan local newspaper reported that the body of a 28-year-old man with stab injuries on the neck, was recovered from an abandoned paddy field near the Tumbovila Bridge in Piliyandala on Thursday morning.

The newspaper also quoted police as saying two gold chains and a bunch of keys were also found with the body. The body was handed over to Kalubowila Hospital.
