Man held with foreign currency at Mattala airport

A 35-year-old individual has been arrested at the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport in Hambantota today (16) after he allegedly attempted to leave the country with foreign currency worth around Rs. 66 million.
The suspect, who is a resident of Weligama, was arrested by the officials attached to the Sri Lanka Customs, while he was preparing to board a flight to Dubai.
“There were US$ 184,750, Euro 183,400, UK Pound 16,660, Kuwait Dinar 2690, Saudi Riyal 77,500, Qatar Riyal 16,000, UAE Dirham 11,900, Denish Kroner 67,000, Swiss Frank 1,200 and Oman Riyal 1,125, in his possession,” Customs Media Spokesperson Leslie Gamini said.
Investigations are being carried out by Deputy Superintend of Customs Nishantha Jayasinghe, Hasantha Guruge, Asst. Superintend of Customs Nuwan Abeynayake and AKR. Samanjith.
