The National Fishworkers Forum (NFF) in India has reiterated its demand to the Centre to prevail upon the Sri Lankan government to release 56 boats belonging to Indian fishermen.

In a press release, the NFF chairman M Ilango requested the Centre and the External Affairs Ministry to take action to get the boats released, which otherwise could be damaged and destroyed by the monsoon rains and cyclones.

The NFF chairman also sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention in the matter and urged him to hold higher-level talks with the Lankan governmentas soon as possible. (NIE)
