August 14, 2016   01:34 pm

The Department of Meteorology today requested naval and fishing communities to be vigilant as strong windy conditions (up to 60-70 kmph) are expected to continue over the country and surrounding sea area until Thursday (18).

The sea area extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanturai and the sea area extending from Hambantota to Batticaloa via Pottuvil can be very rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 70-80 kmph.

Issuing a severe weather advisory for strong winds, the department’s Early Warning Centre said that other sea areas around the island will be fairly rough at times as the winds can strengthen up to 50-55 kmph at times.
