Steps will be taken to install CCTV cameras inside police cells within next few weeks across the country, it was reported.

Law and Order Minister Sagala Rathnayake has instructed the Ministerial Secretary to take appropriate measures in this regard, a source said.

The police came under criticism after the death of a suspect inside a cell at Pussellawa Police station recently. The individual was found dead inside the cell which sparked protests in Pussellawa on 18 September. The suspect in question had committed suicide by hanging himself inside the cell.
