The Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) should pressurize the government not to register medical students of the private medical college in Malabe, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) asserts.

JVP leader, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, expressed this view after holding a discussion with SLMC members on Tuesday.

“Due to political and personal reasons, the government is likely eyeing to register them,” he said.

Dissanayake said the committee appointed by the SLMC has also recommended not to register medical students of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM).

However, a Writ Petition has also been filed seeking an order questioning the SLMC’s decision.
