The government has sought assistance from several countries to locate a missing fishing trawler which had set out to sea from the Trincomalee harbor for fishing in deep sea.

The authorities say the trawler, Madu Rajina 2, is missing along with its five crew members and they could not trace its whereabouts since last month.

Currently, a joint search operation is underway to locate the trawler with assistance from the Sri Lanka Coast Guard and the Navy.

Accordingly, countries including Australasia, India, Maldives, Pakistan, Myanmar and Seychelles have been alerted by the Fisheries Ministry regarding the missing trawler, it was reported.
