Search is underway to locate two jumbos in Thanamalwila

A search operation is underway to locate two wild jumbos after several persons were subjected to attacks in Thanamalwila, a Deputy Minister said Monday.


Deputy Minister of Wildlife, Sumedha G. Jayasena, said the search has been launched after the two elephants were seen roaming in Meegalewa, Nikawewa, Kiwulara, Neluwayaya areas during past few days.


Two persons were trampled to death and one sustained life-threatening injuries after being attacked by elephants in Thanamalwila on the same day last week.


Jayasena further said the government will provide Rs.500,000 each as compensation for the victims of elephant attacks.
