Man who gave Premadasa’s daughter fake money ordered to pay Rs 2M

The businessman who gave counterfeit currency notes to Dulanjali Jayakody, the daughter of late President Ranasinghe Premadasa, has been given a 2 year prison sentence suspended for five years by the Colombo High Court.

In addition to this, the defendant who pleaded guilty to the charge was also ordered to pay Mrs Jayakody a compensation of Rs 2 million and a fine of Rs 500,000 to the court.

Dulip Perera, from Pita Kotte, had been charged with the possession of counterfeit currency notes at Park Street in Colombo on March 25, 2014 and printing the fake notes at a press in Etul Kotte.

The fraud was uncovered when the suspect had given 503 counterfeit notes of the Rs 5,000 denomination to Dulanjali Jayakody, who in turn had attempted to deposit a portion of that sum at a private bank.
