NPC won’t back the 20th Amendment - Vigneswaran

Chief Minister of the Northern Provincial Council, C. V. Vigneswaran stated that the Northern Provincial Council would not be backing the draft bill of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution of Sri Lanka.

He stated this at a gathering at the Northern Provincial Council premises today (24).

The Chief Minister explained that the Constitutional Amendment aimed to vest Provincial Council powers with the Parliament.

He proceeded to say that the public and Provincial Council Members must be consulted regarding the proposed Amendment.

Vigneswaran also stated that the Provincial Council would convene on September 04, whereupon an inquiry would be made from the Provincial Council members as to their decision on the draft bill of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution of Sri Lanka.
