The Additional Solicitor General Yasantha Kodagoda stated that the Attorney General had informed the Criminal Investigation Department to arrest the Head of Sales of Perpetual Treasuries Limited (PTL) for evidence tampering.

Appearing before the Bond Commission, Yasantha Kodagoda stated that the Head of Sales Nuwan Salgadu, responsible for expunging several recordings from the telephone system at Perpetual Treasuries should be arrested for obstructing justice.

Additionally, the Chief Technical Officer of Perpetual Treasuries Sachith Devendra, who was questioned by the CID on the telephone system within the organization appeared before the Bond Commission yesterday (31).

When questioned on the telephone system of PTL, the CTO stated that the system could not only record telephone conversations, but also provide a detailed record of the call log complete with times, duration and contact details.

Sachith Devatantri was then questioned on whether he was instructed by any high ranking administrators of PTL to tamper with phone records saved in the system. In response the CTO stated that Nuwan Salgadu, the Head of Sales handed him a list of 15 - 20 telephone conversations that were to be removed from the system.

The CTO then admitted to handing over a DVD inclusive of voice recordings completely unrelated to the deleted conversations as evidence to the Bond commission. The Bond Commission ordered Sachith Devatantri to submit 03 DVD’s that contained the deleted telephone conversations immediately.

In light of the revelation, Additional Solicitor General Dappula de Livera stated that immediate legal action needs to be taken against the Head of Sales Nuwan Salgadu for obstructing justice and evidence tampering.

The Chairman of the Commission, K.T.Chithrasiri stated that the AG’s department will decide on the legal action that is to be taken against executives of PTL over the proven charges of evidence tampering.
