Workers at the Hambantota Harbour have commenced a token strike today demanding job security.

Trade unions say that the strike was launched demanding that 466 workers at the Magampura Port be made permanent employees or be paid a proper compensation if they are to be terminated from employment.

The strike will be carried out from 8.00am to 5.00pm today (27) while the employees also staged a protest at the port entrance for about an hour this morning.
