The Department of Government Printing has received the Gazette notification on constituting the number of members to all local government bodies, the Government Printer told Ada Derana.

The Chairman of the Elections Commission Mahinda Deshapriya has said that the Local Government elections will be held on a date between January 20 and 30, 2018 excluding the Sundays and public holidays.

The gazette notification constituting the number of members to all local bodies was signed by Minister of Provincial councils and Local Government Faiszer Mustapha yesterday (2). The elections chief said that this has removed the obstacles which had existed for holding polls.

He said that nominations for the election can be expected to be called from December 11 to 20, 2017.
