Students caught cheating at O/levels banned from facing public examinations

The Department of Examinations has banned the two students that were detained for using their mobile phones to cheat at the GCE Ordinary Level mathematics paper from all public examinations following an inquiry by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara ordered that the investigation of Ordinary Level students using mobile phones at the examination be handed over to the CID.
Two students, one from Anuradhapura and another from Colombo were detained for questioning after they were caught using their mobile phones during the O/level mathematics paper yesterday (18).
The student from Anuradhapura, who was re-sitting the mathematics examination had taken pictures of the question paper and sent them to his female companion via Viber. Police sources stated that the female individual has been identified and reprimanded.
The student from Colombo was also a student re-sitting the mathematics examination. The Department of Examinations stated that both students will be banned from facing all public examinations following the incident.
