Senior immigration officer arrested with 60 gold biscuits in pockets

A senior Immigration and Emigration officer at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake has been arrested by Sri Lanka Customs with 60 gold biscuits, worth Rs. 36 million, concealed in his pockets.
A Customs spokesman said that the 50-year-old senior immigration officer was apprehended at around 11.30pm last night in the Departure Terminal of the airport.
He said that 60 gold biscuits weighing over 6 kg and worth around Rs 36 million were found in his possession.
It is suspected that a passenger who had arrived from abroad has handed over the gold to the immigration officer at the airport.
A penalty of Rs 3 million was imposed on the suspect while the 60 gold biscuits were declared forfeit.
