Meters for tuks made compulsory from October

The National Council on Road Safety has stated that from October onwards, fare meters will be made compulsory for all passenger-carrying three-wheelers.

Chairman of the Council Dr. Sisira Kodagoda said that the said law will be implemented from the second week of next month.

The drivers have been given a long time to fit a suitable meter for passenger transport three-wheelers and this can no longer be extended, he said.

Accordingly, the law will be strictly enforced against three-wheeler drivers who do not install fare meters, said the Chairman.

In addition to fixing three-wheeler fare meters, the new law also calls for issuance of a receipt at the passenger’s destination.
