Five youths have been arrested for behaving in an unruly manner while drunk at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium after the first ODI match between Sri Lanka and England was abandoned owing to downpours, the police stated.
The arrestees are reportedly residents of Galewela area.
Since there had not been a large crowd at the stadium to watch the match, the spectators were seen wandering around the pavilion and consuming alcohol.
Several spectators had then begun to behave in an unruly manner.
Accordingly, they were apprehended by the police while some of them had been bare-chested when they were taken into custody.
The arrested youths charged that they have not done any misdeeds and that the police had taken off their tops after apprehending them, said Ada Derana reporter.
Subsequently, they were taken to the Dambulla police station in a jeep belonging to the Peradeniya police.
According to a spokesperson from Dambulla police, the apprehended youths are to be produced before the Dambulla Magistrate’s Court today (11).
