Report on preventing elephant-train collisions presented today

The committee report on recommendation for preventing future elephant-train collisions is to be handed over to Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation today (25).

The Committee will hand over the relevant report to Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva at the Ministry of Transport.

Transport Minister recently appointed a committee of 14 members to observe the habitats of elephants near railway tracks.

The committee had made their observations in Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Anuradhapura, Talaimannar and Kankesanthurai railway lines and information observations on elephants’ behavior gathered from these areas have been included in the report.

Recommendations for preventing future elephant-train collision have also been included in the said report.
