Prof. Ratnam Vigneswaran of the University of Jaffna has been removed from his post as the University’s Vice Chancellor.

Reportedly, the relevant letter has been received by the administration council of the Jaffna University.

However, the administration council has not yet been informed of a new Vice Chancellor who will be replacing Prof. Vigneswaran.

When inquired from the Vice Chancellor on the matter, he stated that he has not been informed of this decision.

Meanwhile, Ada Derana inquired the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Mohan de Silva regarding the removal of the Vice Chancellor.

He stated that the President retains the power to sack Vice Chancellors and this has been done accordingly.

However, a new Vice Chancellor will be appointed to the Jaffna University, this afternoon (07).
