The government has decided to allow the use of non-programmable calculators for selected government exams, says State Minister of Education Services Ranjith Siyambalapitiya.

Addressing an event of a school in Wennappuwa, the State Minister said the government will be taking new decisions with regard to providing students with quality education.

This will be first tested at the competitive examination for the recruitment of Sri Lanka Accountants’ Service (SLAcS) this year.

The State Minister added that local education must undergo changes to be suitable for the world.

In the meantime, the Department of Examinations yesterday (12) stated that attention has been drawn to permitting non-programmable calculators to be used during exams for the following subjects at Advanced Level examination: accountancy, bio system technology, engineering technology and technology for science.
