Sri Lanka Navy personnel have seized a stock of Kerala cannabis which had been transferred ashore by sea route, during a special operation carried out at Kusumanthurai beach area in Jaffna.

SL Navy says it is conducting frequent patrols to curb the illegal drug trafficking attempts through sea routes.

During such an operation on 12th June, naval personnel of Northern Naval Command, had observed some persons who were carrying suspicious sacks withdrawn from a dinghy which had landed ashore.

Later on, while naval personnel on patrol had reached that location, the dinghy had escaped.

Following a further search, 25 parcels of Kerala cannabis weighing about 57 kg were found and those were taken into naval custody.

A special operation in search of the escaped drug traffickers is being launched in that sea area by the Navy.
