Sri Lanka’s cricket grounds get ICC nod

The work at the Hambantota and Pallekelle cricket grounds were progressing satisfactorily said ICC official in charge of cricket grounds Andy Atkinson and ICC corordinator Dhiraj Malhotra when they met the media this morning.

 

The 2011 Cricket World Cup is to be held in the Asian region including Sri Lanka. The ICC officials were on an inspection tour of the grounds where the matches are to be held. Several cricket grounds are being prepared to host these matches.

 

Mr. Atkinson and Mr. Malhotra together with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) officials visited the Hambantota grounds which are being prepared currently.

 

SLC chairman D.S. de Silva said that they expect to complete all preparations well in time for the World Cup. He also said that facilities will be further enhanced at the R. Premadasa Cricket Stadium at Khettarama.

 

The ICC officials said that the situation of the grounds in Sri Lanka as well as in India and Bangladest were of a high standard.
