Responding to the incident of wasps attacking visitors to Sigiriya today, the Secretary to the Ministry of Cultural affairs says that it was mainly due to the visitors not wearing their protective clothing provided free of charge by the authorities.

Ministry Secretary Wimal Rubasinghe told the media this afternoon that the tourists were not wearing the protective clothing and had thus suffered the stings of the wasps.

Mr. Rubasinghe urged visitors to the historic Rock Citadel to wear the protective clothing provided free of charge by the site officials to safeguard themselves fro possible attacks by the wasps.

He added that the ancient site has not been closed for tourists due to today’s incident.
