IGP orders transfer of Mattakkuliya police personnel

July 4, 2010   08:41 pm

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has ordered that all police personnel including the Officer-in-Charge of the Mattakkuliya Police be transferred immediately following last night’s incident in the area.

A youth was arrested last evening allegedly for possessing heroin. He had broken a window pane at the Police Station and injured himself, claimed police. When the youth was rushed to the hospital residents in the area had attempted to attack the Police Station, creating a tense situation.

Later, the situation was brought under control with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Army.

However, this afternoon the situation had changed and the area residents had shown some displeasure over the incident.
