Govt analyst report on Schaffter’s death to be sent to expert committee

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today (April 04) ordered that the Government Analyst’s report on the death of renowned businessman Dinesh Schaffter be forwarded to the five-member committee of judicial and forensic medical experts who are tasked with uncovering the actual cause of death.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya gave this order to the court’s registrar following a request made by President’s Counsel Anuja Premaratne, who appeared on behalf of the aggrieved party.

He told the court that the Government Analyst has compiled a report on the injuries caused by the tie that was used to bind his hands, thus requesting that the relevant report be referred to the five-member committee of experts for onward investigations.

Granting leave for the request, the additional magistrate fixed the next hearing of the case on April 24.

On February 27, a five-member experts’ committee consisting of five judicial and forensic medical experts to compile a report on the unfortunate death of Mr. Schaffter.

Accordingly, Prof. Asela Mendis, Prof. D.C.R. Perera, Prof. D.N.P. Fernando, Dr. Sivasubramaniam and Dr. Ruwanpura were appointed to the relevant investigative committee, tasked with concluding the cause of death of Mr. Schaffter.
